MELIDEN striker Matty Griffiths has been rewarded for an outstanding campaign with a special award.

The prolific frontman has been the standout performer for the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two side once again this term, and was crowned the league’s top scorer after finding the net an astonishing 38 times throughout the campaign.

Griffiths spearheaded Meliden to a seventh placed finish, scoring more than half their goals thanks to a series of consistent performances and it is a first time that a player from the club has netted more than 30 goals in a single season.

This included 32 from open play and six from the penalty spot, and he finished eight ahead of Steven Whittaker from promoted Bodedern Athletic.

Ian Griffiths, who played a significant role in Prestatyn Sports’ dominant campaign that ended with a championship and a place in Division One for the first time in their history, finished third on 28, which would have been enough to secure the accolade last season.

Matty Griffiths is sure to be a sought-after target for a number of teams during the busy summer of transfer activity throughout the region, with his sensational efforts drawing interest from a host of high-profile clubs operating in higher divisions.
