ABERGELE turned in their best performance of the season to date after securing a four-wicket triumph at North Wales Cricket League Division One leaders Bethesda.

The home side got off to a poor start at the crease when Owen Lynam took out opener Jez Shea for just seven, but a solid partnership from Carwyn Williams (46) and Matty Harrington (33) got them back on track before they were eventually sent back to the pavilion by a run out and Kyle Walker.

Seamer Lewis Tolond took a crucial wicket in the form of Gareth Edwards after the dangerous batsman made a very promising 34, before Lynam decimated the middle order with the scalps of Mathew Buchanan (21), skipper Jonathan Williams (2) and Alwyn Roberts (0) to end a fantastic 12-over spell with figures of 4-52.

Walker helped himself to two more wickets in the form of Ioan Roberts (4) and Sean Buchanan (18) to end on 3-55 as the home side were all out for 187 from 43 overs.

Double figure scores from wicketkeeper Gareth Edwards (17) and Karl Higgins (16) got Gele off to a moderate start, and the away side began to look concerned when David Williams was caught and bowled by Harrington after contributing just four.

Opening batsman Ben Garnett then turned the game on its head with a sensational knock, demonstrating a number of impressive strokes until he was caught off an Andrew Day delivery five short of his century.

Other scores of note came from David Moulson (21) and Tolond (15), while Harrington was the pick of the Pesda bowlers on 2055 as the away side reached their target for the loss of six wickets with three overs to spare.

Ed Rooney’s men will look to take this positive momentum into their next league clash against title hopefuls Mochdre on Saturday.
