RHYL Football Club have made a bold move that is set to benefit them significantly as they look to finally get back to the JD Welsh Premier League.

After weeks of speculation, Dave Norman, Eddie Maurice-Jones and Richard Williams-Cooke were formally announced as their new backroom staff, replacing the outgoing duo of Mark Connolly and Matthew Jones.

The move is a huge coup for the club, with Maurice-Jones holding a reputation as one of the brightest young managers anywhere in the country after his phenomenal success with both Gresford Athletic and Denbigh Town.

Guiding a club like Denbigh to second place in the Huws Gray Alliance was an absolutely outstanding feat, and with more resources available at the Corbett Sports Stadium I would be a huge surprise if he was not to replicate these achievements at one of the most stories clubs in the Welsh pyramid.

This is a set-up that belongs in the top flight, and these appointments could give this sleeping giant the boost it needs to get back to the promised land.

The squad seemed to be going through the motions at times last term, especially when they dropped out of title contention, but this will not be happening under Maurice-Jones and Williams-Cooke, who demand nothing but maximum effort and if you are not giving it on a consistent basis then you are sure to know about it.

Their fierce reputation has brought with it incredible respect from any player that works with them, and you can see by how much fight was being shown at Denbigh this season just how much this method works and has been sorely missing at the Corbett Sports Stadium in recent season.

Anything like this sort of fight within the squad will see them competing for honours next year, and it is going to be an immensely busy summer of transfer activity as Maurice-Jones looks to bring in a group of players who are fiercely loyal to him and fully believe in his methods.

The likes of Craig Pritchard, Ben Nash, Jonathan Hill-Dunt and Danny Sullivan have all thrived under the guidance of the manager and his assistant, while Josh Davies is another who will be highly sought after once he returns from a stint in New Zealand with Melville United this winter.

While it may have been a difficult decision to leave a club that both played for and have close association with, it is undoubtedly the right move in terms of progressing their respective careers. Denbigh is not in a position to apply for a FAW Domestic Licence whereas Rhyl have a rich and proud history of achievements at the highest level and boast the facilities to back it up.

Everything is in place for Maurice-Jones, Norman and Williams-Cooke to bring the Lilies back to where they belong, and they have already injected fresh life into a club that should give Bangor City and their new manager Craig Harrison a run for the money next season.

It is going to be the most intriguing second tier season in history, and it would not be a surprise to see Rhyl sitting on top of the pile once everything has been decided thanks to this outstanding move from managing director Mike Jones and chairman Paul Higginson.
