BODEDERN Athletic ended a fantastic season with some silverware after a 3-2 Take Stock Van Hire Cup final win over Mochdre Sports after extra-time.

It has been a hugely successful return to Lock Stock Welsh Alliance football for Ricky Williams’ side, who finished second to Prestatyn Sports and secured promotion to the third tier at the first time of asking.

The Athletic boss, said: “Finals are finals and we didn’t perform. If I’m perfectly honest, Mochdre were the better side but we did what we do best and dug in, which effectively won it for us after Ricky’s touch of brilliance.

“I can’t be much happier with how the season’s gone to be honest. Yes I’d have liked to win the league, but we lost it to a quality side in Prestatyn Sports.

“I think the run-in hampered us a bit, with so many games, but leagues never lie so they say. When I took a break from managing Boded four years ago, the club folded, since then I’ve felt it’s partially my fault.

“I wanted to go back and take us back to where we belong, and I had a five year plan to do it but it’s been done in three. I can’t wait to mix it with the likes of Llangefni Town, no-one will fancy coming to Boded that’s for sure.”

Bod took the lead within the opening 90 seconds when Aidan Clarke converted their first notable chance, but this provoked a strong response from Sports and they levelled matters courtesy of a Marc Owen penalty.

After the break saw Athletic get their noses in front once again through Shaun Jenkins, only for Tom Clarke to send the game into an additional 30 minutes late on.

The tie was settled in sensational style through the dangerous Ricky Jones, who unleashed a ferocious effort into the top corner to decide matters.
