PRESTATYN picked up their first Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One win of the season thanks to a resounding eight-wicket home success over Fleetwood Hesketh.

A sensational bowling display from Peter Cassidy and skipper Gareth Boughey was the catalyst behind a much-improved performance, and they will look to continue their positive momentum during their trip to Sefton Park on Saturday.

The hosts got off to an impressive start in the field when Cassidy removed the dangerous duo of Huw Summerfield (5) and captain Scott Rimmer (7), while Geeth Arachchige made just two before he was trapped lbw off a Scott Williams delivery.

Boughey then got in on the act with the quick-fire scalps of Steve Gregory (8), Alex Halsall (3) and Owen Lloyd-Drummond (10), while the impressive Cassidy also adding to his collection by sending Thomas Wareing (6), Gavin Dickenson (17) and Daniel Murphy (0) back to the pavilion to end a mammoth 20 over spell with figures of 5-57.

The visiting resistance came in the form of opener Neil Rimmer, who looked comfortable until he was clean bowled by Boughey just one run shy of his half century, with the all-rounder finishing on 4-25 as Fleetwood were skittled for 116.

Things were not as good for Boughey at the crease as he saw his stumps take a tumble at the hands of Dickenson after making 15, with Cassidy contributing 19 before he was bowled by Murphy.

The partnership between Sheil Sethi and Daniel Williams ensured the home side got over the line with minimal fuss, with the pair going unbeaten throughout the remainder of the innings to secures scores of 36 and 32 respectively.

This proved to be enough for Boughey’s men to reach their total after just 29 overs, and there was a double celebration for club as its second unit achieved an 80-run triumph at Hightown St Mary’s.
