LLANGEFNI Town have once again come within a whisker of achieving promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance after another impressive campaign.

Chris Roberts’ side finished their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One season in second spot behind pre-season favourites Conwy Borough, which represents another outstanding achievement for a squad that continues to punch well above it weight.

This is a testament to the strong personality that Roberts possesses, and he has developed a strong bond with his players and instilled a determination that saw them lose just five of their 28 third-tier contests to finish on 61 points.

That total would probably be enough to gain promotion on any other given, but although this is another blow, the club received some welcome news with the news that Roberts has turned down a role in the second tier of the Welsh pyramid to stay on and, in his words, finish what he started.

The manager’s influence has made a massive impact on the club in recent years, and it would be a surprise to see them not operating around the summit again next time around.

There have been a host of standout individual performers’ for Cefni throughout the season, with the prolific Iwan Jones once again enhancing his reputation as one of the best finishers anywhere in the region.

Another that has caught the eye is Harry Galeotti thanks to his consistent performances, while Osian Jones has proven to be a thorn in many defences thanks to his dazzling skill-set and ability to run at defenders.

The veteran presence of Craig Roberts has been another huge contributing factor in their success, and there is plenty to like about the futures of Dan Thomas and Matthew Jones if they remain within the set-up next term.

With Llandudno Junction and a fancied Prestatyn Sports entering the league, things will be very difficult next year, but with no powerhouse such as Boro or Glantraeth to overcome then they are expected to go into next season as one of, if not the title favourite.

This will being with it another level of expectation entirely, but for a club that operates without paying its players it shows just how far they have come in a relatively short space of time thanks to the passion each squad member shows for the shirt.
