ST ASAPH managed one win from two contests on a busy Bank Holiday weekend of North Wales Cricket League Premier Division action.

Will Ryan’s side secured an impressive 167-run home victory over Hawarden Park on Saturday, before falling to a narrow three wicket loss in their derby clash at Denbigh the following day.

The result sees the title hopefuls occupy second place in the standings ahead of their visit to early pacesetters Menai Bridge, who are just one point ahead of them at the summit.

Impressive knocks from Ryan (78), Duncan Midgley (88) and Nathanael Scott (62) ensured they set a total of 263-5 in their home clash against Park, with Campbell Marr claiming two wickets for the loss of 69 runs.

The visitors never got close to reaching their required total thanks to an outstanding performance in the field from the Saints, with Jason Foulkes turning in another solid effort to finish with figures of 3-16 from seven overs.

He was ably assisted by Richard Marsh-Evans (3-27) and Alex Baker (2-20) as the home side restricted their opponents to 96-9 in reply.

Another superb knock from Midgley was the highlight of their time at the crease against Denbigh, with the opener hitting 74 as they set a target of 159-8 from their 50 overs.

Home skipper Harrison Jones was the star of the show with the ball, helping himself to a five-wicket haul for the loss of just 32 runs.

This feat was replicated by the in-form Foulkes for the City side, with the gifted seamer securing five wickets for the loss of 34 runs from his 12-over spell.

A half century from Gerallt Lyall (54) gave the hosts a fighting chance, and they secured a dramatic win by securing the winning runs in the final over with four balls to spare.
