OUTSPOKEN boxer Tony Bellew has caused a social media storm after stating his opinion on Ched Evans and his rape acquittal.

Following the former Rhyl resident’s interview on talkSPORT, Bellew made his feelings known regarding the series of events and sparked a fierce debate on his Twitter account.

The Liverpool fighter, who is due to take on David Haye for a second time on May 5, stated that the woman involved should be “punished following Evans’ acquittal, stating: "I hope the girl who ruined Ched Evans life is put in jail like he was! That lad had his whole life turned upside down for something he didn’t do! She HAS to be punished."

He later tweeted: “I was sceptical when he got sent down! The lad didn’t behave like a gentleman BUT she didn’t behave like a lady did she! Facts are Ched Evans is INNOCENT! He went to jail for something he DIDNT DO! He is now forever going to be labelled a RAPIST! He’ll never get away from that.

“I’m always honest and give my opinion and I’m doing the same here! Reading the notes it’s disgusting BUT at no point is ANYONE being forced to do anything!! The lesson to be learned from this is to not judge until ALL THE FACTS are released! Sad situation for all concerned.”

Many came out in support of the woman involved during the incident that led to his initial conviction in a series of tweets, with one saying: "Just because there wasn't enough evidence doesn't mean she was lying. Otherwise she'd have been charged with perverting the course of justice.”

The comments arose after Evans spoke to Jim White in his first in-depth interview, where he talked about his time in jail, the abuse he still receives from football fans and his ambitions for the future.”
