RHYL were denied an important victory at Caernarfon Town by a stoppage time strike from their former goalkeeper.

Alex Ramsay enjoyed a successful spell with the Lilywhites in the JD Welsh Premier League before moving on to pastures new, and he came back to haunt his old club with a memorable goal at the death to seal a 1-1 draw.

The Lilies remain eight points behind their Huws Gray Alliance title rivals having played a game more, and the fifth placed side will look to close the gap when they host winless basement dwellers Llandudno Junction on Saturday (2pm).

Manager Matthew Jones, said: “I thought we were perfect for the 90 minutes but that 90 plus one has killed us.

“It is difficult to blame the players as I thought they were superb. We came up with a game plan and a strategy to defend as a unit in training and they did it to a man and were outstanding.

“We managed to get the early goal and dug in right until the end, but it is just one of them when the goalkeeper comes up and scores which happens probably one in a hundred times.

“It does feel like a defeat, but it also shows we can do other side of the game and out determination throughout was excellent, so there were lots of positives.

“If we can match the two together in terms of defence and attack then we can take so much heart from the game, but it is really important that we start converting some of these draws into wins from now until the end of the season.”

The away side drew first blood and took the lead on five minutes following a strong start, with Alun Webb continuing his sensational form since re-joining the club with a fierce drive past Ramsay.

It was backs to the wall for the most part for the remainder of the contest as the Canaries went in search of a leveller, but a much-improved back-line which featured new signing Will Bell managed to thwart their advances until the first minute of stoppage time when Ramsay came up for a last gasp corner and managed to prod home from close range to secure a share of the spoils.
