RHYL face another stern test of their Huws Gray Alliance credentials this weekend when they host a dangerous Porthmadog side on Saturday.

The Lilywhites will be hoping to gain further momentum in what will be Matthew Jones’ first official game in-charge, and with Caernarfon Town travelling to Denbigh Town they could close the gap further with another three points.

Sports reporter Dean Jones picks out the key battles that will go a long way to deciding the fixture.

Mark Connolly vs Sion Bradley:

Both players are seriously in-form and whoever comes out on top in this duel could end up going home with the three points.

Connolly has led from the front for the Lilies in both a player and manager during what has been a difficult campaign for the club in the early stages, while Bradley has been at the heart of everything good at Port and has enjoyed possibly the finest season of his career to date.

Rory Crowther vs Richard Harvey:

The two shot stoppers on show in Saturday’s game are both very dependable, with Crowther quickly emerging as one of the best young prospects operating outside of the JD Welsh Premier League.

Harvey possesses a great deal more experience and has been a mainstay at Port for a number of seasons, and his consistent performances have gone a long way to ensuring that his side remain one of the hardest to break down in the second tier.

Tony Davies vs Joe Chaplin:

This is another mouthwatering tussle between two very talented individuals, and the talented Davies will need to keep Chaplin quiet throughout if the Lilywhites are to go home with three points.

The striker has 11 league goals to his name following his summer move from Conwy Borough, and while Davies has been embroiled in controversy this season there is no doubting his ability or what he brings to this Rhyl rearguard.

Jamie Brewerton vs Julian Williams:

His defensive partner Brewerton also has a big responsibility on his hands this weekend in trying to cope with the red-hot Julian Williams, who has been in immense form in recent weeks and will be looking for further success in this pivotal clash.

There is nothing that Brewerton has not seen in the domestic game and he still remains a very important part of the squad both on-and-off the pitch, with his experience and positional sense setting him apart from the majority of defenders operating within the division.

Alun Webb vs Josh Banks:

Webb has hit the ground running since making his return to the Corbett Sports Stadium, and has already proven that he is going to be an enormous asset to have during the second half of the season.

The ultra-consistent Banks is going to be another difficult proposition for the talented winger, with the Port star one of the best left-backs in the league and more than capable of denying anyone that comes his way if he performs to his current level.
