PRESTATYN Town’s JD Welsh Premier League relegation worries worsened with a 4-0 defeat at Barry Town United.

Neil Gibson’s side had nothing to show from their trip to South Wales despite creating numerous chances throughout, and they will be hoping for better fortune on Boxing Day when the Seasiders host a resurgent Bala Town at the Motion Finance Stadium.

The home side started the game on the front foot and they almost went ahead after six minutes when Jordan Cotterill’s shot from inside the box flew over the bar.

This provoked a strong response from the visitors, with a Myles Hart header from a corner forcing a smart save from the keeper following their first period of pressure.

They were unable to build on this and fell behind on 15 minutes when Cotterill made up for wasting an earlier chance by firing past Carl Jones for his first goal of the campaign.

The away side picked themselves up following the setback and began to ask questions of the United defence, who managed to hold firm with three defenders blocking goalbound efforts.

Another chance arrived for Town when Noah Edwards went agonisingly close to levelling proceedings, with Mike Lewis producing a stunning stop to deny the midfielder after good work from Jack Kenny.

Jones was called into action to deny the lively Cotterill once again on 27 minutes, and Kayne McLaggon missed another good opportunity to double their advantage on 36 minutes during a dominant spell.

After the interval saw the Seasiders first out of the blocks with Edwards testing Lewis shortly following the restart, while a Kenny effort from a James Stead free-kick was blocked by the United rearguard.

This same pattern of play continued with Ben Maher steering an effort narrowly over after more neat build-up play from Gibson’s side, and Zyaac Edwards had the ball in the net on 64 minutes only for the effort to be chalked off for offside.

They were made to pay for their inefficiency in-front of goal as the hosts doubled their tally against the run of play on 70 minutes when Macauley Southam found the net after a rare foray into the visiting half.

Southam notched his brace is almost identical fashion on 75 minutes, and Town’s misery grew worse as Jones was shown a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

United added a fourth on 85 minutes courtesy of Cotterill to cap of another disappointing day at the office for Gibson’s men.
