HIGH-FLYING Rhyl & District reeled off their fourth consecutive victory with a scintillating 5-1 slamming of out-matched Wilmslow to go top of the table for the first timen in the competitive North West Counties League Division Two.
Wary of the threat from sixth-placed Wilmslow, Rhyl settled for a modest 1-0 lead at the interval after creative ace Adam Judge had cleverly laid off a simple tap-in for Wayne Ricketts on 25 minutes.
Man-of-the-match Danny Bell ventured forward from his controlling central midfield role to hammer home a free-hit to increase Rhyl’s lead early in the second period.
Industrious Dave Kelly linked up with maestro Bell in a dazzling one-touch move that finished with the ball in the back of the Wilmslow net to make it 3-0 and although the visitors broke away to pull one back against the run of play, Ryan Corner was the scorer of both the concluding goals as Rhyl pulled the Wilsmlow defence apart with their free-flowing attacks from all parts of the pitch to thoroughly merit their new pre-eminence.
Now the chart-toppers will be aiming for a fifth straight win when they travel to Knutsford in another testing trip this Saturday.
Rhyl Seconds extended their 100 per cent away record in Division 8 with a matching 5-1 romp at Deeside Ramblers to move up to fourth place.
In contrast to their bleak home form, where they have yet to salvage a point this season, the Seconds have now won all four on the road!
