KINMEL Bay rose to third in the Welsh Alliance Division Two after beating Gaerwen 2-0.

Liam Jones’ sixth strike of the season put the Bay ahead after seven minutes, and Darren Abbott struck early in the second half to seal their fifth win of the campaign.

Schoolboy errors cost Meliden dear as they went down 2-1 to Penmaenmawr Phoenix. Early chances for James Hay and Gaz Walsh came and went for the Miners, but a needless push in the box let Pen open the scoring from the spot on 20 minutes.

Hesitant defending let Ste Roberts in for the Phoenix’s second just two minutes later, but another penalty, this time in Meliden’s favour, brought them back into the tie on 25 minutes, with Darren Cassidy slotting in his ninth of the term.

Prestatyn Rovers were the big winners in the second round of the President’s Cup, having thrashed Betws-y-Coed 11-1. Danny Williams popped up with a first-half hat-trick, while Jordan Miller, Jamie Foxbyrne and Paul Demilow also netted doubles. Chris Lowe and Cy Williams completed the rout.

St Asaph were also among the goals as they hammered Y Glannau 8-1. Chris Hernley and Adam Cassidy both fired home hat-tricks, while Paul Fleming and Steve Williams also got on the scoresheet, with Gethin Jones netting a consolation for Y Glannau.

Rhyl Hearts were on the end of an 8-1 scoreline, with Andy Corran their sole scorer in defeat to Old Colwyn.

Rhuddlan Town beat Llansannan 2-0 thanks to a goal in each half from Alec Williams and George Hewitt.

Back in the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League, Rhyl Athletic went down 5-2 to Mochdre Sports, with Josh Parry and Liam Handy putting Rhyl 2-1 up before a second half Sports onslaught.
