RHYL rounded off their 2012 league campaign with a confident 3-0 win over Rhos Aelwyd, sealing second spot in the Huws Gray Alliance.
Goals from Ryan Williams, Russell Courtney and James Stead secured the win, setting Rhyl up perfectly for a cup double this week, having played Bangor City in the North Wales Coast Cup last night (Tuesday, April 24) before tackling Caersws in the Huws Gray Cup at Llandudno on Saturday.
“We’ve got two big games this week, and hopefully by this time next week’s we’ll have some reward for what has been a very good season,“ said boss Greg Strong.
“The lads have played some unbelievable stuff at times, and I think it’s good for them and everyone at the club to get some reward for this season in the cups.”
The second place finish follows last year’s runners-up spot for the Lilys, and Strong said his side were determined to hold up their end of the bargain as they chase a slim chance of getting back into the Welsh Premiership, with the fate of domestic licence failures Neath still to be decided.
“It was nice to end how we did, and I know the lads were determined to get that result,” Strong said.
“Connah’s Quay have sorted themselves, but with a few in the top league failing their licence, it’s important for us to do our bit by finishing second, and we’ll see what happens.”
