RHYL’S Tesni Evans reached the quarter-finals of the Meadwood International Open in Winnipeg, Canada to continue her rise up the world rankings.
After defeating Canadian ace Mira Kirk 3-0, teenager Tesni, now 58th in the world, took on Lauren Briggs - 26 places higher up - and was desperately unlucky to be denied a semi-final appearance in a five-game marathon after leading 2-1 and 6-3 up.
Tesni then flew home to compete in the British National championships in Manchester where she was paired against world number 22 Emma Beddoes for a quarter-final ticket and in a tremendous effort was finally defeated 13-11 in the tense fourth game.
Her younger brother Emyr had better fortune, coming through as number 2 seed to land the boys under-17s title at the MetalMin North Wales Junior Open on his home courts at Meliden.
Stars Academy stable-mates Jordan Davies was victorious in the under-19s, Hannah Davies in the under-23s, Lowri Roberts the under-15s and Layna Beattie the Under-11s.
Other notable local performances came from Hari Major, Tyra Beattie, George Thomas, Sam Wallace, Liam Jones and Perry Shoemark.
