PRESTATYN TOWN crashed out of the Welsh Cup as Huws Gray Alliance Cefn Druids deservedly took the spoils at Bastion Gardens.
This was a well below par performance from the Seasiders who looked second best throughout against a robust Druids outfit who relied on route one football coupled with a greater desire to win the game.
The visitors could have taken a first minute lead when Max Peate headed against the woodwork and they followed the chance up with a clutch of corners, one of which was cleared out to the lively Joe Price who saw his rising drive tipped over the bar by Town keeper Jon Hill Dunt.
From the resulting flag kick Robbie James got a touch on to the back post and Adam Hesp bundled the ball in to give Druids a 12th minute lead and James could have added another in the 25th minute when he blasted over from close range.
Town had to wait until the36th minute for their first meaningful attack when Steve Rogers beat Druids offside trap and rounded keeper Chris Mullock only to see Warren Duckett and Kieron Quinn combine to clear the danger.
The second half saw Town enjoy greater possession but again Druids had the better chances - James heading over from Price’s free kick in the 55th minute and shortly after Duckett’s clever ball freed Mark Harris down the right hand flank and his cross was headed inches over by Tony Cann.
This was never going to be Town’s day and in injury time, Duckett’s quick ball put Price clear and he left his markers trailing behind him before drilling the ball beyond Hill Dunt’s dive.
nTown are in action tonight (Weds) when they visit Newtown in the second leg of the WPL League Cup first round. On Saturday they become the first Welsh Premier team to play a competitive fixture at Bangor City’s new Nantporth Stadium which is live on S4C, kick off 3.45pm.
