JUNIOR players from Rhyl Rugby Club matched up against rivals at the weekend in the first round of fixtures since the Christmas break.

The club’s Under 7s took on a trio of fixtures at Colwyn Bay RFC, losing the first game 6-4 with Owain Espley, Dlyan Cook, Roman Hodgson and Airan Semple getting on the scoresheet, before winning the second 8-7.

They also bossed the third game of the series, with debutant Jack Walsh adding to scores from Roberts, Semple, Hodgson and a trio from Cook, also in his first game, in a 7-2 win.

The Under 8s played a double-header with Bangor, winning the first game 7-1 thanks to two scores each from Shaun Roberts, Paddy Nelson and Tommy Jones, with Torin Jones adding one more, and triumphing 8-3 in the second, with Delyth Speakman, Paddy Nelson, Shaun Roberts, Tommy Jones and Torin Jones on the score sheet.

The Under 10s also played Bangor, picking up a 35-20 win. A strong start saw Rhyl pick up where they left off before Christmas, with James Fielding crossing over in the corner. Liam Roberts added a powerful hat-trick of tries, Fielding scored another and Troy Billington rounded off an impressive win.

The Under 12s though lost out 46-14 to a strong Bangor side. Michael Hughes and Owen Evans got on the scoresheet, with Owen Jones converting both.

Rhyl’s Under 14s rounded off the weekend’s action, losing out 52-22 to Wrexham.
