Prestatyn Town 0 Bangor City 5
TOWN shipped another five goals against the league leaders but their place in the top six Europa League play-off split is assured.
Defeats for rivals Airbus and Afan Lido meant the only two clubs capable of deposing the Seasiders from the coveted sixth place were out of the race and Town will now go head to head with Bangor, The New Saints, Llanelli, Neath and Bala Town when phase two starts in February.
As it was at Farrar Road last Tuesday, City came out of the blocks like a train and were two up in 15 minutes, firstly Damien Allen turned Kyle Wilson’s cross beyond the reach of Dave Roberts and minutes later Sion Edwards got onto the end of Les Davies’ knock down to double their advantage.
Bangor were now in full flow and only Martin Beattie’s timely challenge denied Chris Jones who found time and space from Edwards’ cross.
Wilson then threaded a neat ball through to Dave Morley who fired high and wide with the net looming.
Town’s best first half chance came from Steve Rogers whose header from Chris Davies’ cross brought a good save from Lee Idzi although Ross Stephens will have wished he’d done better on the stroke of half time when he screwed his shot wide after some good work by Neil Gibson.
The second half was one way traffic - on 53 minutes Jones killed the game as a contest when he produced a fine finish from the edge of the box and 11 minutes later Wilson added a fourth with a lofted shot over Roberts.
With six minutes left on the clock substitute Carl Smyth rounded off the scoring just 90 seconds after coming on to the field.
The final blow came in the 90th minute when Seasiders skipper Dave Hayes was sent off for a second bookable offence.
But Town’s disappointment will have been tempered by the knowledge that results elsewhere mean their season still has everything to play for.
This Saturday (January 7th ) Town have a rearranged home game with Neath, kick off 3.15pm.
