AN Ian Griffiths penalty was not enough to rescue Prestatyn Town from a 2-1 defeat at Gap Connah's Quay in the Reserve Premier League.

James Stead fired a 71st minute winner as Rhyl edged out Llandudno 2-1 after Mike Hulse had put Rhyl in front while leaders Denbigh Town sank Llanrwst 2-0.

Nathan Ellis grabbed a 70th minute equaliser for Rhyl Athletic in the 1-1 draw at Llansannan in the League Premier Division but Prestatyn Rovers were floored 5-1 at Meliden where Andy Jones (2), Mark Hughes, Martin Halewood and John Jones did the damage.

Dewi Jones was unable to rescue St Asaph from a 3-1 fall at Rhos United but a solitary goal from Mike Roose was enough to earn Rhuddlan Town a 1-0 win over Abergele Dragons.

In Division One, Matthew Marsh-Evans had Abergele Colts ahead but they still finished 3-1 down to Llannefydd while Rhyl Hearts advanced to the North Wales Junior Cup Second Round thanks to a 1-0 victory over Abergele Dragons Reserves.

Mark Cryer (2) and Paul Clayton secured Prestatyn Rovers Reserves the points in a 3-2 win over Connah's Quay Tigers in the Reserves Combination Division.
