FREE scoring Rhyl FC continued their stunning start to the season with an 8-1 annihilation of Caersws.
The win maintains Rhyl’s 100% start to their Huws Gray Alliance campaign, having scored 16 goals and conceded just one from their opening three matches, and manager Greg Strong said he was delighted by the contribution of his attacking players.
“I’m delighted with the way we played, in all my time at Rhyl it’s always been a difficult place to go, but the attitude of the lads was fantastic.
“It’s funny that at the start of the season people were wondering where the goals would come from, but the lads have been great in doing what we’ve been asking in training.
“All of our forward players and midfielders have got on the scoresheet, is very encouraging.”
First half goals from Ryan Williams and Jason Oswell, as well as a beautifully struck effort from the edge of the box from Paul Mooney, put Rhyl in command.
Caersws pulled one back before the break with a free header, and the visitors also had man sent off following a confrontation between both sets of players as the half drew to a close.
But despite going a man down, Rhyl continued the rout, with Ryan Williams adding his second with a cheeky back-heel on 48 minutes.
Mike Pritchard added the fifth and Mooney powered in his second of the afternoon from the edge of the area, though Rhyl’s afternoon was soured a little with Shaun Dowling dismissed for a second yellow card.
Jimmy Gambino followed up a Mooney drive to make it 7-1, and Chris Melia came off the bench to round off an outstanding performance.
