AMBITIOUS Prestatyn Town are looking for a new person to steer them to further Welsh Premier League success.

Since former chairman Tony Thackeray stood down at the end of last season, the club has been under the leadership of Tom Butterworth who made it clear at the time that he would only take the job on a temporary basis.

Four months on, Butterworth is still in the chair and feels it is now time to step aside and let a new person push the Seasiders onwards.

Mark Jones, the club’s media officer, said the time was now right for fresh blood to come in with new ideas and a mid-to-long term business strategy.

“Tony did a great job and without his input we wouldn’t be a Welsh Premier club but he wanted to step down for business and personal reasons,” said Jones.

“Tom made it crystal clear he didn’t want the job permanently so we feel it is time to get someone new on board.

“Anyone interested in the position must be from a sound business background with a good knowledge of Welsh football and what it takes to push a club at this level forward.

The role demands time and commitment as well as the ability to tackle some major projects head-on. For example, we have plans for a new stand that will require complex grant funding - we need the type of person who can handle such demands,” he added.

And Jones warned that anyone looking at the role from a ‘get rich quick’ perspective might be in for a surprise.

“Anyone taking the chair will have to initially work within certain fairly broad parameters alongside the existing committee, staff, players and management.

Although the club is stable at the moment, ideally they would bring a certain amount of investment with them to bolster the team budget as we push for the UEFA play-offs again and help progress ground improvements,” he said.

The club also need an experienced and competent treasurer with a knowledge of tax, wages and VAT.

Anyone interested in either role can contact Mark in strict confidence on 07753 966805.

On Friday Town slipped to a 2-1 defeat at The New Saints but the result still leaves them in fifth place in the table.

Saints took a 2-0 lead through Matty Williams and Nicky ward in the first 30 minutes but Ross Stephens’ second half strike ensured Town were never out of the battle.

nThis Saturday the Seasiders have an early ‘six-pointer’ at home to Carmarthen, kick off 2.30pm.
