The staff of a St Asaph supermarket have embraced a family who have been vandalising their cardboard recycling.

Staff at Co-op Food, on Lower Denbigh Road, have rearranged their waste recycling for the rest of spring for a pair of nesting robins.

The discovery of the birds came after solving the riddle of two months of frequent mess around the shop's cardboard trolley.

Colin Owens, shop manager, said: "All of the staff have really pulled together in monitoring the birds and feeding them with wild bird seed and meal worm regularly."

The RSPB were contacted by staff member Sian Jones after finding the nest, prompting the Co-op team to build an alternative home for the birds - only to discover that they were quite snug in the cardboard store.

Mr Owens added: "It's something we've just accepted and taken on board, and there have actually been a lot of positive responses from people who have seen what we're doing."

The staff believe that there are three eggs buried inside the recycling trolley, and have been told to expect them to hatch in the next seven days.
