A 24-HOUR fitness challenge has seen more than £2,000 raised for the Sam Standerwick Memorial Fund.

Adam White, Dan Harrison, Jimmy Cook and Mike Clark completed 100 sit-ups, 100 press-ups, 100 kettle bell swings and either a mile run or row every hour for 24 hours at Fitness HQ, St Asaph, as part of the challenge.

By the end each of the participants had completed 2,400 press-ups, sit-ups, kettle bell swings and 24 miles of running or rowing for the appeal in memory of Sam Standerwick, who lived at Llandullas and trained at DL Fitness in Rhyl before his sudden death, aged 25, in December 2016.

The money raised will go towards paying for the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) charitable organisation to send a team of cardiac doctors and nurses to North Wales and provide screening for young people.

Adrian Standerwick, Sam’s dad and founder of the memorial fund, said: “Thanks to their efforts and the amazing support they have received we have taken a massive step towards guaranteeing screening in North Wales by Cardiac Risk in the Young for a second time. I honestly can’t thank them enough for what the guys have put themselves through over the last 24 hours.

“I feel very humbled by their strength and commitment to what we are trying to achieve which is the saving of young lives in North Wales.”
