A farmer from Groes has won a whopping 10 awards in less than a week at the St Asaph and Ruthin Easter On Sale Shows.

Hot off the heels of three firsts and three seconds for spring lamb at the St Asaph Easter show last week, farmer Emrys Davies has again cleaned up in Ruthin with another two firsts and two seconds yesterday morning - this time with a spectacular showing in the cattle competition.

Mr Davies, 59 of Groes Fawr farm near Denbigh, said: “In 16 years at the farm we’ve won a few prizes before - but nothing like this. It’s amazing achievement to be the champion of the show.”

Mr Davies - who runs the farm with help from wife Gwennan and sons Dion, Dylan and Dyfrig - entered 66 sheep for the show in St Asaph livestock market show on Thursday, March 22, selling all of his stock with at an average of £174.

While he didn’t win any prizes for the 42 hoggets entered, from his 24 spring lambs he beat all comers with first and second prize in the single lamb, prize pair and group of four categories.

This week at the Ruthin farmers auction house show on Tuesday, March 27, Mr Davies doubled down on his charmed run, with a 560 kg heffer crowned champion of the show and first prize winner, and another clinching second place.

Mr Davies capped off his successful run with a similarly dominant display with his bulls, winning first with a 545kg bullock and again winning second with another of his livestock.
