A NEW CPD Y Rhyl 1879 supporters’ trust has been launched, with the aim of working with the club to secure the future of football at the town’s Belle Vue stadium.

It has been formed in response to concerns regarding the long-term future of the club at Belle Vue.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879, which formed as a phoenix club in 2020, confirmed a new two-year lease at the ground in 2020.

The trust members, through the Rhyl Fans Association, requested an open meeting with the club to discuss the long-term future of the ground, but said no response was forthcoming.

Interim chairman for the trust, Mike Jones, said: “We are keen to work with all to undertake fundraising to secure the necessary money to be potentially used as match funding against other funding sources to seek to secure the ground.

“Belle Vue is one of the most historic grounds in Welsh domestic football but it faces an uncertain future.

“Ownership of the ground by the club is key to drawing down grants to improve areas such as floodlighting and community facilities to ensure that the club and the ground can be key to the regeneration of the community of Rhyl.”

The trust is encouraging all supporters to consider becoming a member and will be confirming details of several fundraising activities in the coming weeks.

In response, CPD Y Rhyl 1879 has clarified that the trust is “acting independently” and “does not represent the club in any form”.

A club statement read: “We Must make it clear to all that this group is acting independently of our club and does not represent the club in any form.

“Our club, CPD Y Rhyl 1879, was formed in 2020 with the overwhelming support of the Rhyl Fans Association.

“And indeed, it was the fans who voted on our new club’s logo, kit and named our club after advice from the FAW following the demise of former club, Rhyl FC.

“Both CPD Y Rhyl 1879 committee members and the Rhyl Fans Association membership have maintained an excellent working relationship in the growth of its fanbase and the various fundraising activities that have supported our club.

“We hope that this statement gives a clear and transparent understanding to all of our team managers, coaches, players and volunteers across all of our club who represent CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

“We also hope this brings a clear understanding to our fantastic supporters, sponsors and wider key community stakeholders.”
