CPD Y Rhyl 1879 saw out a tense final minutes in their match to Rhostyllen to record another victory and stay top of the Ardal North West league.

It was speedy Macauley Taylor who would break the deadlock for Rhyl midway through the first half, after he was picked out by James Jones, who delivered a delightful ball deep from his own half.

Taylor calmly took the ball down before planting it past the imposing Josh Jones in the Rhostyllen goal to net his seventh league goal of the season.

And after Jack Davies whipped a corner in from the right, Kieran Ellis headed down to Jack Higgins, who was able to get enough room to fire the ball in from close range just before the break.

The hosts, bottom of the table, were awarded a penalty in the final five minutes, after a mistimed tackle by Warren Adam shortly after he had replaced Davies.

Tomos Williams stepped up and was denied by Rhyl goalkeeper Luke Wilmot, and a second time from the rebound.

But it proved third time lucky for Williams, who was finally able to stab the ball in afterwards.

Despite late pressure, Rhyl held on to seal all three points, with a home game against Saltney Town next up for Gareth Thomas’ men next Saturday (February 11) at 2pm.
