CPD Y Rhyl 1879 returned to form on Saturday (December 3) with a 3-0 home win against Hawarden Rangers at Belle Vue in the Ardal NW league.

After winning the coin toss, Rhyl started the game 15 minutes after the scheduled 2pm kick-off due to the visitors having delays with their kit.

A short corner on 31 minutes would lead to Rhyl taking the lead, as Jack Davies found captain Reece Fairhurst, who slotted the ball low and hard into the box, where Jack Higgins would be the first to react and fire the ball into the net.

The second half was similarly dominated by Rhyl, and it wouldn’t take to long for them to double the lead.

Just three minutes into the second half, some great work by Aaron White led to yet another corner.

Jack Davies sent the ball in from the right, and rising above the defence, Alex Jones got on the end of it, and put the ball low and hard to the Hawarden goalkeeper’s left to make it 2-0.

Just shy of the hour mark, the Lilywhites would score again, as Chris Bennett sent a wonderful ball into Higgins, who put the ball past the keeper to score his second and Rhyl’s third.

The result secured the Lilywhites’ fifth clean sheet of the season and a league double against Hawarden Rangers.

With only one other game in the Ardal Northwest being played, the win puts Rhyl top of the table for the first time this season.

In his post-match interview, he praised the team for their performance, highlighted White and Dan Sim for their contributions and Higgins for his two goals.

Next up for the Lilywhites will be Nantlle Vale at home on Saturday (December 10).

The Gwynedd outfit currently sitting seventh in the league; after a solid start to the season, they have struggled of late.
