CPD Y Rhyl 1879 put in a superb performance despite numerous players missing through injury or suspension to win 2-0 at Hawarden Rangers on Saturday (November 12).

Following an impeccably observed minutes silence to honour the Armistice, referee Michael Gray got the game underway.

It would be all Rhyl in the early exchanges, with the home side struggling to get the ball past the halfway line.

And the pressure paid off 13 minutes in; a goalmouth scramble resulted in Kieran Ellis heading the ball down to Macauley Taylor, who fired the ball into the roof of the net.

As quickly as the game was restarted, Dan Sim had won the ball back and another Rhyl attack was on.

A fine run down the left from Taylor led to him cutting inside and crossing to Ellis, who fired the ball in to make it 2-0.

As the game went on, Rangers grew into the game and started to look dangerous as they attacked.

Rangers continued their dominance in the second half, and it was a huge team effort that reduced the home side to few chances.

Luke Wilmot in goal more than coped with what was in front of him, and it would be the midfield duo of Dan Sim and Elliot Evans that would work tirelessly to keep Rangers at bay.

Return to form for 10-man Rhyl in big away win at Brickfield Rangers

With 20 minutes to go, referee Michael Gray was forced to withdraw from the match due to feeling unwell.

Assistant referee Tom Crofts stepped in and a Hawarden steward was asked to assist as his replacement, but Rhyl saw the job through to claim a huge 2-0 victory.

With other results in the league going in their favour, Rhyl moved into second place in the league, two points behind Bangor 1876 with a game in hand.

Attention now turns to next Saturday’s (November 19) fixture, when they welcome Brickfield Rangers to Belle Vue (2pm kick-off).
