CPD Y Rhyl 1879 were knocked out of the FAW Amateur Trophy on Saturday (October 29) in a 4-2 defeat at CPD Nefyn United.
The home side got on the scoreboard first after 21 minutes, after Tomi Evans threaded a wonderful ball straight through Rhyl’s defence to find Rhys Williams.
Williams was clean in on goal, and he placed the ball low to goalkeeper Luke Wilmot’s left to put Nefyn 1-0 up.
It only took three minutes for Rhyl to respond, as Warren Adam and Leon Atkins linked up again on the right.
Adam found Leon in space on the edge of the box, carried the ball forward, and fired the ball into the roof of the net with some ferocity, leaving young keeper Tristan Harrison helpless.
But late into first half injury time, a free kick awarded to Nefyn would once again establish their lead, as Josh Piper put the ball over the line following a scramble in the box.
It wouldn’t be until 76 minutes when Nefyn would go 3-1 up, with a great finish from 18-year-old Jack Jones, following a long ball from Guto Roberts.
Seconds after the restart, Rhyl would reduce the deficit back to a single goal; Jonny Taylor with a wonderful headed effort from an inviting Casey Faulkner cross.

Following Taylor’s goal, Nefyn scorer Jones was given his marching orders from referee Gareth Parry; a straight red for what appeared to be a verbal altercation between the two.
But with eight minutes to go, Nefyn secured their place in the next round, when a defensive mix-up between goalkeeper Wilmot and Elliot Evans led to Evans putting the ball into his own net.
