CPD Y Rhyl 1879 continued their perfect start to the season with a 3-1 victory in the FAW Welsh Cup at Penparcau.

The game started with a hugely respectful minute’s silence for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

In what turned out to be a feisty affair, it was midfielder Jordan Worthington who saw red after just three minutes, reacting to an off-the-ball incident.

Referee Aled Williams had no option but to send youngster Worthington off for an early shower.

Another incident on the touchline saw Penparcau first team coach, Tommy Morgan, sent to the stands after kicking out at Lilywhites player-coach Warren Adam as he was about to take a quick throw in.

Rhyl net four goals to make it as many league wins and maintain perfect start

Rhyl drew first blood following some fantastic footwork by Leon Atkins in the penalty area.

Atkins was eventually fouled and referee Williams pointing to the spot, with leading scorer Alex Jones making no mistake with the penalty to put Rhyl one up on 32 minutes.

Just seven minutes later, it was 36-year-old Penparcau forward Matthew Davies that slotted a left-footed effort home, neatly making it 1-1 after 39 minutes.

But with 56 minutes played, it was home defender Andrew Gittins who then found his own net following a Kieran Ellis long throw, to put Rhyl back in front.

And four minutes later, relentless forward Ellis, who worked hard all afternoon, found the net with an excellent right-footed strike into the bottom left corner to double Rhyl’s lead.

Manager Gareth Thomas said: “Really happy with the performance, and no issues with the Jordan Worthington red card - this is something he will learn from.

“Overall, happy to be in the hat for the next round after a tough fixture.”
