DOGS took their owners for a walk to raise money for a worthy cause.

More than 100 people and their four-legged friends took part in the three-mile hike on Sunday, following a route along the Rhyl promenade.

The walk, which started at Splash Point, was held to raise money for St Kentigern Hospice.

Laura Parry, fundraising manager at St Kentigern, said: “We had 90 dogs registered and dogs took their owners on a walk. We are still counting how much we raised, but it was £5 per entry.

“We were overwhelmed by the response, with some people even turning up on the day wanting to take part.

“It was absolutely freezing, but everyone was determined to brave the weather. The dogs were all very well behaved. People really showed their support.

“We would like to say thank you to the participants, The Mayquay, Kinmel Bay, who provided tea, coffee ad biscuits for the dogs, the Arena Cafe and also Cllr Pete Prendergast, chair of Denbighshire Council.

“People were able to carry out the walk at their own pace.”

‘Pups on the Prom’, the first event of its kind for St Kentigern, was organised in partnership with Cllr Prendergast.

During the stroll, he gave a talk on the walk and pointed out changes happening along the prom.

The hospice, based in St Asaph, is running a ‘Choccy Chase’ on Saturday, March 24. This will run between 3pm and 5pm and is in partnership with Tir Prince Raceway in Towyn.

Participants will run three laps of the race circuit, passing through ‘chocolate stations’ as they go. The run is open to all abilities but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry fee £12. Register at www.stkentigernhospice.org.uk/event/choccy-chase-2018 or telephone the fundraising team on 01745 536 022.
