JULES Peters is gearing up for a busy 2018 which includes a new TV show and walking the Grand Canyon.

Mum of two Jules, 50, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, is currently filming a documentary which will follow her and her musician husband Mike, former frontman of rock band the Alarm, as they navigate their packed calendar whilst living with cancer.

The documentary is a follow up to last year’s BBC Wales programme, Mike and Jules: While We Still Have Time, which included Jules’ diagnosis – and will include the results of a forthcoming check-up with her oncologist.

Jules said: “I don’t really know where I’m at. I’m hoping my cancer is completely removed – but I’m not out of the woods yet. But the truth is, you can still do a heck of a lot through cancer. I feel I can still do whatever and still feel fairly formidable.”

Part of Jules’ approach to her treatment – which included two operations, 18 weeks of chemotherapy and a four-week period of radiation treatment at Glan Clwyd Hospital – was not to let cancer define her life.

Jules said: “I thought I was on top of the mountain when I finished my chemotherapy, but when I began radiotherapy I started losing a lot of my hair and, I felt, my femininity.

“But you can’t bury your head in the sand. You have to face up to your problems.

“So I walked five miles there and back to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd every single day with a different friend. I felt incredible and turned walking into a weapon to stop me slipping into negativity. ”

This year, Jules will combine her love of walking with Mike – whose leukemia relapsed in 2015, and who still lives with the disease – with their annual Snowdon Rocks concert and a trip to America’s Grand Canyon in October for Rock the Canyons in aid of Mike’s Love, Hope Strength charity.

Jules said: “Mike and I have taken a lot from the NHS, so we feel like we have to give back.

“It’s all about being thankful – there has been such kindness offered to us by North Walians and the Alarm family too.”

Mike and Jules, from Dyserth, will be welcoming that “family” to Llandudno’s Venue Cymru on Friday February 2 and Saturday 3 for the band’s Gathering 2018, which welcomes fans from across the world.

Jules added: “My vision is to continue to embrace my situation and be positive. I’m happier than I’ve ever been in my life, and life is even sweeter now and I wouldn’t change it for anything.”
