THERE was a lot to celebrate for Prestatyn Running Club at the weekend, with several members posting great times.

A record field of more than 470 runners took part in the second fixture of the Borders Road-Running League in Birkenhead Park on Sunday, with a very encouraging turnout of 23 members of Prestatyn Running Club among them.

Tony Wood had an outstanding run, finishing very strongly, and Rachel Shipley produced another superb performance to lead the ladies' team home.

With four men in the first 100 finishers, including League debutant Jamie Betts, it was a great all-round display.

Positions: 39 Tony Wood, 52 Alex Ryder, 84 Rachel Shipley, 86 David Ellis,

92 Jamie Betts, 110 Darren Blazier, 111 Gordon Jones, 214 Simon Bonfield,

Joint captains Sophie Johnson and Mandy Cartwright took on two very different off-road challenges within 48 hours.

On Thursday evening they and four other members travelled to Llandegla Forest for the first of this winter's Dash in the Dark series. The four-miler includes tough climbs, some technical descents and plenty of mud and water.

On Sunday, the mud was replaced by sand as Sophie and Mandy ran in the scenic Anglesey Trail 10k in Newborough Forest, with much of it along the beach.

Sophie clocked 62.46, and Mandy, who was hampered by an ankle injury, finished in 55.07.
