A CHURCH in Prestatyn is taking part in a UK-wide 'bring and share' Sunday lunch event .

The Big Lunch, organised by the Eden project, involves people across the country having lunch with their neighbours once a year on a Sunday as a fun way of promoting the spirit of friendship and community.

One of the participating locations in the event on Sunday, June 3 is the Alive Church on Victoria Road.

Philip Pierce, the church's core team leader, said: “It’s bringing back the old fashioned idea of street parties and community.

"There are a lot of lonely people in the are who are very lonely, many of whom don’t know their neighbours.

“This has been eroded over the years, so we’re hoping this will encourage community cohesion in Prestatyn and even, hopefully, further afield.”

Everyone is welcome to join the Prestatyn event and is encouraged to bring food to share. Hot-dogs and cakes will also be provided by the church.

The church is also laying on free family activities, including a bouncy castle, face-painting and fun games.

Pastor Karen Gratton said: “Community and neighbourliness is what we are all about as a church, so we are excited to be participating in this national project to encourage friends and neighbours to share Sunday lunch together. Please pop in anyway if you can join us”

Mr Pierce added:”We’re part of a network called Festival Churches, and we saw one of our group in Chester getting involved and we thought it’s very much in line with what we should be doing.

“We did attempt something smaller last year, but this is the first time we’ve got our act together to do it properly.”

Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to RSVP by contacting hello@alivechurch.co.uk to help the organisers plan catering.
