One of the most captivating love stories of all time will be told through elegant choreography and a glorious score in Colwyn Bay next week.

Performed by Brighton’s exquisite Vienna Festival Ballet, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, which was composed in 1875, promises to capture the full range of human emotion.

It is Prince Siegfried’s birthday and his mother presents him with a bow, as a gift. She is anxious that he should seek a wife and marry, but he refuses.

He sees a flock of swans and decides to go hunting, alone. On arrival in the forest, he is surprised to find out that the swan at which he was aiming is in fact, a woman, transformed into a swan-like form by the evil Baron Rothbart.

She explains to Siegfried that she is the Queen of the Swans, Odette, and can only fully cecome a woman again when a man swears undying love for her to break the spell.

Expect lavish costumes, stunning scenery, international stars, and an everlasting musical accompaniment synonymous with the throes of passion.

Swan Lake is the most popular ballet in the world. It offers everything from the boundless hope to crashing despair of Odette and Siegfried’s love to the ensuing terror and tenderness through the most sumptuous melancholic and ecstatic movement.

It is at Theatr Colwyn on Wednesday, May 23 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £21, with concessions, available from theatrcolwyn.co.uk or by calling 01492 577888.
