Brass musicians from far and wide descended upon Abergele.

A brass band workshop and concert, hosted by Abergele’s own band Beulah Brass, was led by tutors from the prestigious Foden’s band, of Sandbach, attracting players from across North Wales and Cheshire to the Abergele Youth and Community Centre.

Beulah Bras secretary Mary Wallace said: “It proved to be a very successful and enjoyable event, and as one of the participants was heard to remark 'it was amazing to make so much progress in a day'.”

Students aged 11 to mid-70s, of varying ability, received expert tutelage in a masterclass with Foden’s principal cornet player, Mark Wilkinson, in a variety of styles in both full bands and section.

A question-and-answer session was held with members of Foden’s band, followed by a short, free concert for friends and family of the musicians.

Mrs Wallace added: “The concert began with a selection of pieces from the tutors’ ensemble, which showcased their prowess as players.

"Then the workshop band, with a great sense of achievement, performed the pieces studied throughout the day.”

Beulah Brass’s will join the Llandudno Tenovus Choir in concert at the Little Theatre, Rhyl this Friday at 7.30pm on Friday, May 11.

Admission is £5 on the door. All proceeds will go to the Tenovus cancer charity.
