THE Kinmel Bay based chairman of the North Wales Women’s Football League has reported the Football Association of Wales to UEFA and FIFA for alleged bullying and sexism.

An immediate result of this row is that 300 women have not played football matches for three weeks.

Bill Darwin, the league chairman, said: "The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has shown sex discrimination and bullying towards our league and we have reported them to UEFA and FIFA for this."

The row centres on the FAW insisting clubs' reserve teams should play in the local league if the club's first team has been selected to play in the Wales Premier League. However if the first team is relegated it could result in two teams from the same club playing each other.

Mr Darwin added: "This would cause many problems and possibly lead to corruption and match fixing, that is is why we are resisting the move. As a result the FAW has suspended our league and have said they will manage it for the rest of the season."

He stated the FAW does not behave in this manner with men's clubs, he said: "No second tier men’s league in Wales has a reserve team in it.

"Our league would be the only one to have a reserve team in it and suffer all the associated problems. It would be detrimental to the future development of female football in North Wales.

"Despite all our efforts and explanations the FAW has suspended our league, this is clear sex discrimination by the FAW, and could ruin the future of women’s football in North Wales. Therefore we are challenging this action.

He added: "The clubs who support our league would be threatened with sanctions. We now have young females terrified of the FAW who have threatened to stop them playing and to take their coaching badges away. This shows the FAW is not only sexist but are bullies as well.

"The result of the suspension is that 300 women have not played for three weeks. This is sexist and boorish behaviour by the FAW.

"We have requested FIFA and UEFA intervene immediately so our players can continue playing, and to stop the removal of our officers who were democratically elected. For the FAW to remove them is the act of a despot, tyrant and bully."

A spokesman for the FAW said: "Following the non-compliance with an order made by the appeals panel of November 30, 2017, the league was subsequently suspended by the FAW. The same panel met again on January 30, 2018 to discuss the league’s non-compliance with that order. The panel then decided that as they were not willing to comply with the order that the management of the league should be run by the FAW until the completion of the 2017/2018 season."
