THE new face Glan Clwyd Hospital has been unveiled as construction work at the front of the build nears completion.

From next Tuesday, visitors to the hospital will be able to use the drop-off and pick up points at the front of the site. Additional accessible car-parking spaces will also be available.

As well as the existing main entrance, entrance B, there are now two new additional entrances - one for the hospital’s outpatients and the other for the new Medical Investigation Unit, home to lung function therapies, blood testing and medical photography.

Ellen Greer, hospital director, said: "Opening up the front of the hospital again really brings home the fact that the redevelopment of the hospital is in its final stages.

“The new drop off and pick-up points will improve accessibility to the front of the site for our patients.

“We want to say a big thank you to patients and visitors for their patience over the last few years for walking further distances to enter the front of the hospital."

The modernised front of the hospital has been completed as part of the redevelopment of the hospital site to remove asbestos, which was used during the original construction of the hospital in the 1970s.

More than 88 per cent of asbestos, which was used as a fire retardant within the construction industry, has been stripped from the fabric of the main hospital building.
