More than 80 people have gathered for the launch of a new initiative helping people cycle for the first time.

The nationwide Wheels for All programme marked the beginning of a three year plan, enabling people with disabilities or differing needs cycle with a range of specially adapted bikes, tricycles and side by sides with an inaugural drop in event at the Alive Church in Prestatyn.

The programme, which is funded with a grant from charity Steve Morgan Foundation, will hold regular events throughout Denbighshire, Conwy and Gwynedd allowing adults and children to cycle in a safe, sociable environment supported by experienced staff and trained volunteers.

Cllr Gerry Frobisher, Mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden said: “It was amazing to watch the disabled riders enjoying their cycling. Many of them had never been on a cycle in their lives.

"The chance to ride the differently adapted cycles build the riders self confidence, independence and the knowledge that they can enjoy cycle riding like anyone else. It was wonderful watching all the riders throughout the day really enjoying themselves."
