ROTARIANS patiently listened to more than 70 presentations during a junior public speaking competition.

Prestatyn rotarian Alan Booth and other members visited Ysgol Clawdd Offa; Penmorfa; Ysgol Bodnant; Ysgol y Llys; Ysgol Hiraddug and Ysgol y Castell as part of the contest. A total of 74 presentations were heard and 12 finalists were chosen.

After "much deliberation", Caitlin Jones of Y Castell was awarded first place after her talk about The Brownies.

Second place was awarded to Lia Haywood of Y Castell who told audiences about Zip World Fforest and third place to Precious Brown of Penmorfa whose topic was The Impact of Social Media.

Chris Porteous, member of Prestatyn Rotary Club, said: "All Prestatyn Rotarians look forward to this competition. We visited the schools over a number of weeks.

"The 2018 final was kindly hosted by Helen Vernon, headteacher at Bodnant.

"When the 12 finalists were invited to the stage, in front of a packed school hall, Alan praised each of them. Although we had to choose the top three, all 12 are winners. All the participants received a certificate."

Dave Smith, rotary president, added: "With 12 confident young students taking part in an event like this, it can only prove beneficial for the rest of their schooling and beyond."
