An investigation is taking place after four men broke into a Prestatyn convenience store and damaged a cash machine.

North Wales Police attended an incident at the Co-op store at about 3.30am today on Ffordd Penrhywylfa.

It is understood the offenders gained entry though the roof and forced the door off an ATM cash machine before stealing the contents and making off in a car, possibly a black hatch-back.

DCI Neil Harrison said; “The thieves made off with a substantial amount of cash. I am appealing for anyone with information , or who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour at that time, or who saw a black hatch back car in the area."

The store had to be cordoned off, four vehicles were present at the scene this morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting reference V190981.
