WORK is to start on a major new housing development in Abergele.

Macbryde Homes will build 156 homes on land which lies between the A547 and A55 North Wales Expressway, on land previously ear-marked for the North Wales Business Park.

The development - which includes two-bedroom mews style homes and three-bedroom and four-bedroom detached family homes - will create more than 250, 92 of which will be involved in construction.

Planning permission for the homes plan was granted in 2017.

Stuart Andrew, design manager at Macbryde Homes, said: "Significant time and consideration went in to preparing our proposals to ensure that this development is complimentary to its locale and to ensure that it doesn’t impact negatively on either existing or future traffic flows in the town.

"We are, therefore, very much looking forward to seeing how it is received by the local population."

The homes will be marketed under the name of Bron Y Castell.

North Wales Business Park was never fully finished. Facilities, including a medical centre and pharmacy, were created but land remained.

As a result, site owners placed an application with Conwy County Borough Council to free the land for residential use. It was later identified as an allocated housing site in Conwy's 2013 Local Development Plan and this allocation was taken forward by Macbryde Homes in 2016 when they submitted detailed plans for the development of the site.

Caryl Russell, sales manager at Macbryde Homes, added: "Abergele has a growing population and this land, adjacent to the developed part of the North Wales Business Park, was always ripe for residential development. It is, therefore, fantastic to now be moving forward with construction."
