THEY may be opening a new hotel in a matter of days but staff at Rhyl's new Premier Inn have already completed their first booking, with the town's parish church.

Premier Inn will open for business on the seafront at West Parade on Monday, February 26.

Staff took time out of their training to take part in a community day at Our Lady of the Assumption RC Church, also known as St Mary’s Church.

Painting and general maintenance tasks as well as tiling and cleaning jobs were carried by generous Premier Inn staff including those working on reception, in housekeeping and managers.

Paul Moore, 33, operations manager at the new Premier Inn, said: "It went really well. We did all the toilets, kitchen, church hall. We created a basketball court in the car park - it was brilliant.

"I put in a good eight hours. Everyone could paint. We were definitely happy with what we achieved and we want to keep the relationship going."

Rev Fr Charles Ramsay, parish priest, said: "It has been very impressive. The amount of time the Premier Inn have spent with us is very good and they hope to continue their support and they would like to develop their relationship."

The new 70-bed hotel has been built on the former Honey Club site. It also incorporates a Cookhouse and Pub restaurant.

Last Friday, Premier Inn will hosted a ‘kids’ fun day’ at the church in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Mr Moore, who has worked for the company for eight years, added: "I am so excited about opening day now, no nerves at all. We have got a tremendous team who are absolutely ready for the challenge. I couldn't ask for a better team and they can't wait to get started.

"The hotel is ready. We have been there training. It is like a new toy for me.

"Quite a lot of the new staff have been out of work so this is going to be a new chapter in their life".
