WORK to demolish a disused building on Rhyl's Children's Village is under way.
The former Captain Noah’s play centre has been on the site since the early 90s, when the original Children’s Village was built.
It is now set to be reduced to rubble in an attempt to improve sea views and open up space.
The area around the building will form part of the Town Plaza element of Rhyl’s waterfront redevelopment.
This will include a number of restaurant units around the Sky Tower and the Vue Rhyl cinema.
The work, expected to last until the end of February, is being carried out under a demolition order, issued by Denbighshire County Council (DCC) and funding for the demolition is being provided by the authority and the Welsh Government.
County council leader Hugh Evans said: "The removal of this building will open up views of the seafront from the Children’s Village and allow the Town Plaza element of the waterfront development to move forward.
"Residents are already able to see the changes ongoing in the town, including the work to illuminate the Sky Tower as well as the waterpark development, 1891 and the refurbishment of the Pavilion Theatre."
Work is already under way on the waterpark, which is scheduled to open in 2019.
Work on a 73-bedroom Travelodge and family restaurant, due to open in December, started last month and a Premier Inn hotel is set to open next month on the former Honey Club site.
