A JEWELLER’S targeted by thieves is to close at the end of February.

Hundreds of pounds worth of jewellery was snatched from the Tlws jeweller’s on Market Street, Abergele at the start of the month.

Items stolen included a Clogau gold bracelet, a Fiorelli pendant, earrings and bracelets and Elements pendants and earrings.

The thieves also threw a large stone through the shop window.

Gaenor Roberts, who owns the business, said she had already decided – before the latest burglary – to shut up shop and not renew her lease after nearly 12 years of “happy” trading in the town.

The former teacher told the Journal: “The decision [to close] was made before this latest incident.

“The people of Abergele are lovely people and it is just a very small minority of people spoiling it for people who work hard and try and make a living.

“We are just hoping that local people will support us in the latest few weeks of trading as they have done in the last 12 years.”

Tlws is situated next to the now empty Barclays bank, which closed in December.

Ms Roberts added: “I decided it wasn’t worth the risk of signing for another five years with Barclays closing next door.

“We’ve already noticed a decrease in footfall in Abergele since HSBC and Yorkshire closed.

“I’m not setting up anywhere else, but will continue to trade online.”

Tlws will close on February 25.

North Wales Police have launched an appeal for information to find the two offenders responsible for the recent burglary. The break-in happened about 4.20pm on Tuesday, January 2.

PC 533 Kevin Casey said: “We believe the pair left the scene on foot, heading down beside the Bee Hotel towards Tesco.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who might know anything about the burglary, anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who may have seen these items for sale anywhere.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 533 Casey at Abergele police station on 101 quoting reference RC18196505.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
