Residents of an Abergele sheltered housing scheme have been selected as the face of a campaign aimed at breaking down barriers and championing the benefits of new technology.

The positivity and achievements of tenants at the Pentre Mawr sheltered housing scheme, has lead to them being chosen by Digital Communities Wales, a Wales Co-operative Centre initiative funded by Welsh Government, for a professional photo-shoot promoting the residents as the vanguard of digital inclusion.

Pentre Mawr Warden Alison Pring said: “We were delighted to be able to help out. Over the last few years residents have really embraced new technology and supported one another in learning more - with the help of some expert tips from visiting specialists.”

“There has been a keen appetite for residents to access the internet, and the residents had funds available for this project.

Steve Jones, of Abergele’s Spider Technologies Limited, who is currently installing wifi throughout the whole scheme, was also included in the photo shoot for his work with Pentre Mawr.

Ms Pring added: “Steve has also been very helpful with the residents and taking time to explain any digital problems they have so it was great that he could join our photo-shoot too.”

Louise Blackwell, Community Development Officer for Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, said;“The residents at Pentre Mawr are very proud to be asked to help promote the vital benefits that new technologies can provide for older people.”
