NEW Forest District Council is among 100 local councils listed by a national newspaper as admitting secretly examining residents’ rubbish to see how much they are recycling.
A spokesman for New Forest District Council said: “Through Project Integra, we carry out random analysis of material collected. This is done through a process, which uses a material reclamation facility but doesn’t attribute the material to specific households or residents.
“Rather, the material is attributed to certain areas of the district so that we can target our promotional campaigns to increase residents’ participation in our existing recycling schemes.”
