PUBLIC consultation on switching sixth form education to Coleg Llandillo in Rhyl will begin at the end of the month.
The plan would mean closing the sixth forms at Rhyl High School and Blessed Edward Jones High School with Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl becoming responsible for post 16 education in the town from next year with a sixth form centre opening in 2010.

Dr Moha
mmed Mehmet, acting Corportate Director for Lifelong Learning, said: “There is widespread recognition of the need for radical changes in 6th form education in Rhyl.

“The proposed development will be branded “The Rhyl Sixth” – indicating a commitment to traditional sixth form college academic standards whilst emphasising that this will be a model that will prepare young people for future success in higher education and the world or work.

The document is available on www.denbighshire.gov.uk or hard copies will be available from local libraries.

Consultation events will be held at Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl on April 28 for parents, school communities and local businesses with the final details being announced in the media and on the council’s website.

nResponses should be sent to the School Improvement Service, Lifelong Learning Directorate, Denbighshire County Council, Trem Clwyd, Canol y Dre, Ruthin, LL15 1YN or by e-mail to: admineducation@denbighshire.gov.uk.
