SIR – Mrs S Baddeley’s (Letters, September 8) experiences with Red Diamond service 31S do not mirror this family’s.

We have found that Red Diamond provides a good and courteous service. Punctuality can be a problem, but is understandable when you take St John’s into consideration, after all First’s punctuality record wasn’t that great either. Prices are somewhat cheaper and appear to offer better value to the passenger.

The new First service 31B amuses me. It is timetabled 10 minutes earlier than the Red Diamond services and follows the same route between the city centre and Hastings Drive. On a number of occasions we’ve ended up stuck behind a late running 31B between Tesco and the city centre. While competition can be good for the consumer, it seems pointless to me to have two buses chasing each other (through Ronkswood for example) trying to catch a limited pool of customers.

Now that there is more competition for passengers in Worcester surely it makes sense to be able to buy a Worcester ticket and use that on all services within the city, especially if multiple operators are running what is ostensibly the same route.

Worcester.
