A HECTIC weekend of performing by Mike Peters is to pay off for fellow cancer patients.
The Alarm frontman, from Dyserth, will be handing over a cheque for £20,000 to the North Wales Cancer Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital on Friday, after his gruelling Snowdon Rocks concerts last summer.
Mike sandwiched in an acoustic gig on Snowdon with concerts in Rhyl and Caernarfon to repay the Cancer Centre and Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor for twice helping him through Leukaemia.
Through his Love Hope Strength Foundation, Mike will be repeating Snowdon Rocks this summer, allowing many more people across North Wales to overcome Cancer.
Mike, who used a potential Snowdon performance as motivation to pull him through treatment, said: "Having come back from death's door, it is very rewarding to be able to still perform and raise money for Cancer centres.
"I firmly believe the treatment offered here is as good as anywhere in the world. With one in three people being diagnosed with cancer at some point, we want to raise awareness of how you can be helped through it.
"I thank those who helped raise funds through Snowdon Rocks. The concert on Snowdon was a powerful moment and I intend to continue raising money for these vital causes."
The money being donated is expected to be used to fund new technology at the Cancer Centre. An identical sum of money will be presented to Ysbyty Gwynedd to assist them with further projects and hospices including St Kentigern will also be receiving funding.
Ray Pritchard, fundraising manager for the Cancer Centre, is extremely grateful to Mr Peters and his fellow fundraisers for their efforts.
He said: "The Snowdon Rocks fundraising was an arduous thing to do. Mike has been a tremendous fundraiser.
"We are reliant on this sort of donation and the efforts Mike continues to show are invaluable. He has raised the profile of what we are trying to do."
Mike was originally diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1995. Although he recovered, he was treated for Chronic Lymphovytic Leukaemia a decade later.
To celebrate his recovery, Mike followed up Snowdon Rocks with the highly ambitious Everest Rocks last October. He performed a concert on Mount Everest, with the funds raised by the Love Hope Strength Foundation helping develop Cancer treatment in Nepal.
n The Alarm are releasing 50 Saturday night tickets to locally based fans for their sold out show, The Gathering, at Venue Cymru on January 26 at £20 each. Call 01745 571571 for more information.
